Over the past seven months I have been paying particular attention to how my choice of outfits
makes me feel, walk, talk, and think. In June I had a very important meeting and I wanted to make
an impactful first impression on this new client.

In my corporate days to accomplish this goal I would wear a really smart corporate navy blue
double breasted suit with the skirt smartly cut right above the knee with a silk white blouse and
single strand pearl necklace or a threatening cranberry red suit with a white low cut shell and
double strand pearl to hang flirtatiously at the cleavage line.

My focus used to be how good the clothes look on me; now when I choose an outfit I'm more
aware of the influence behind the creativity of the designer, their expressions of sophistication,
elegance, glamour, and the beauty of the woman, and the designer I am wearing.

I remember when Laura Bush became more aware of who she was wearing, she embraced the
indulgent luxuriousness of high style and clever color combinations giving her a brilliant sense of
style.

First Lady Michelle Obama brings life to the authenticity of who she wears and the fashion world has
their eye cast on her every fashion detail. I also admire other first ladies namely Sarah Brown and
Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.

First Lady Surprises White
House Tour Visitors.

One year ago, after President
Obama was inaugurated, he
and the First Lady decided to
surprise visitors who were on
White House tours to
reinforce the message of the
White House being the
People’s House.

Mrs. Obama is marking the
first year by continuing this
tradition today – taking
some time to do greet visitors
of the People’s House.

January is National Mentoring Month and this afternoon
President Obama and the First Lady will welcome mentors
and young Americans from around the country. As we
gather in the East Room, organizations and community
groups dedicated to supporting our nation's young people
will come together to reaffirm the importance of
mentorship.

The President will also announce the White House
Mentorship Program for 20 young men from local high
schools. Each student was nominated by his school and
will be paired with an Administration staffer for one year.
This program will allow the participants to serve our local community and students
will be encouraged to pursue excellence in school as well as expand their horizons
as they are introduced to numerous opportunities for personal development,
including career skills. Mentorship has long been a priority for both the President
and Mrs. Obama, as a part of their commitment to their community and personal
responsibility. The First Lady launched her initiative for young women this past
November and they’re already off to a great start.
